Special Monitor For Chicago Special Education Appointed By Illinois Board Of Education
On May 16, 2018, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) announced that it will impose a state monitor on Chicago Public School's (CPS's) special education program, starting with the 2018-2019 school year. The monitor will work with CPS for three years to implement state recommended changes to CPS' special education policies and procedures that were made public during the May 16, 2018 ISBE Meeting. The recommended changes will require review and approval by the monitor. ISBE will employ and pay the salary for the monitor, and provide additional technical assistance and support as needed.
