Catholic Charities Of Buffalo To End Foster, Adoption Programs Due To Conflicts With Church Values
On August 23, 2018, Catholic Charities of Buffalo announced its intention to exit its foster care and adoption services contract with the Erie County Department of Social Services (DSS). The organization says it cannot simultaneously comply with New York state regulations that require contracting agencies to allow same-sex couples to foster and adopt children, and simultaneously conform to the teaching of the Catholic Church about marriage.
