Professional Fundraisers Retain One-Third (Or More) Of Charitable Campaign Donations
Professional fundraisers retain nearly one-third of charitable campaign donations to cover the costs of conducting the campaign. Some professional fundraisers retain more than half of charitable campaign donations. Overall, more than $403 million in raised funds were retained by fundraisers, while charities retained about $822 million overall. In 2016, more than $1.2 billion was raised in New York State through 987 fundraising campaigns conducted by professional fundraisers on behalf of charities that used a range of methods including special events, direct mail and telemarketing.
