Los Angeles School Board Calls For A Temporary District-Wide Moratorium On New Charter Schools
On January 29, 2019, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Board of Education (BOE) passed a resolution calling for the California State Legislature to impose a temporary moratorium lasting 8 to 10 months on new charter schools in the school district. The LAUSD Superintendent will report back to the BOE within 90 days with a plan to pursue laws intended to authorize a moratorium on new charter schools within the boundaries of the District, and report if the authority for such a moratorium requires a voter approved ballot initiative at the local or state level.
