New Orleans To Pilot Citywide Internet Access Program
On August 4, 2020, the New Orleans Council approved motion to pilot a public Wi-Fi network to evaluate the feasibility of offering citywide Wi-Fi service. The council directed the Council Utility Regulatory Office (CURO) to study and report back on a plan to implement a citywide Wi-Fi network. CURO has 90 days to complete its analysis and present options for consideration by the council. City data indicates that more than one-third of city residents do not have Internet access at home.
