Texas Black Children More Likely Than Hispanic, White Children To Be Involved In The Child Welfare System
During state fiscal year 2020, Texas had a higher proportion of Black children at all stages of child welfare involvement compared to the prevalence of Black children in the statewide population. Statewide, compared to white children, Black children were 1.7 times more likely to be the subject of a child maltreatment report, 1.9 times more likely to be involved in child maltreatment investigation, and 1.6 times more likely to be removed from their homes.
