Among people hospitalized for an injection opioid use-associated heart infection called endocarditis, only 24% received medication assisted treatment (MAT) within three months after discharge. Of those who received MAT for opioid use disorder (OUD) within three months after discharge, mortality rates were lower among patients who received treatment in the months following.
