People With Autism Report Poor Quality Of Life, Elevated Anxiety Or Depression Symptoms
People with autism who report having a poor quality of life (QoL) are more likely to have elevated anxiety or depression symptoms. At the group level, QoL ratings were significantly lower for those with autism than non-autistic individuals (including those with mild intellectual disability) - though many autistic people had a good QoL. QoL is defined as an individual’s satisfaction with their position in life, linked with their context, goals, expectations, standards, and concerns. Depression symptoms were also related to reduced physical/psychological well-being in both adults (-0.34), and children and adolescents (−0.29).
