About 7% Of Youth In Juvenile Detention Reported Being Sexually Victimized
According to a recent survey analysis, about 7.1% of youth reported being sexually victimized during 2018. This is a decrease from 9.5% in 2012. About 2% (1.9%) reported sexual victimization by another youth (a decrease from 2.5% in 2012), and 5.8% reported sexual victimization by facility staff (a decrease from 7.7% in 2012). Sexual victimization is defined as as any forced or coerced sexual activity with another youth or any sexual activity with facility staff that takes place in a juvenile correctional facility.
