Long-acting injectable antipsychotic (LAI) use by individuals with early-phase schizophrenia can significantly delay time to hospitalization. According to a recent study, people with early-phase schizophrenia treated with a monthly LAI for a year or less avoided psychiatric hospitalization for an average of 614 days compared to an average of 531 days until hospitalization for people treated with other types of medication regimes. About 22% of people treated with a monthly LAI and 36% of people treated with other medication regimes were hospitalized during the study period.
