Judge Rules Missouri Child Welfare Must Continue To Provide Foster Care Services For Undocumented 21-Year-Old With Severe Autism
On February 26, 2021, a Jackson County, Missouri judge ruled that the Missouri Department of Social Services (DSS) Children’s Division must retain custody of an undocumented man with severe autism after he turns 21. Under Missouri’s system, young adults age out of foster care system at 21, and DSS had been preparing to release him from custody.
