Medicare Reimbursements Higher For Physicians When Billed By Hospitals
Medicare reimbursement for physician services was higher when billed by hospitals than by private physician practices. The average bundle of services in 2010 among unintegrated physicians was worth $141,000 if billed from an office and $240,000 if billed from a hospital outpatient department. The average bundle of services in 2016 among unintegrated physicians was worth $150,000 if billed from an office and $291,000 if billed from a hospital outpatient department. "Average bundle of services" is defined as the group of services billed on each claim using the Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes
