More Than 37,000 U.S. Children Lost A Parent During COVID-19
Between February 2020 and February 2021 in the United States from 37,300 to 43,000 children ages 0 to 17 years had a parent die from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Children whose parents die are called “parentally bereaved.” Based on recorded deaths due to COVID-19, each of the more 479,000 COVID-19 deaths in the United States left 0.078 children aged 0 to 17 parentally bereaved, which translates to 37,300 children who lost at least one parent to COVID-19.
