45% Of I/DD Support Professionals Report Increase In Staffing Shortages Due To Pandemic
About 45% of direct support professionals (DSPs) for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD) said their organizations were more short-staffed at the end of 2020 than before the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) public health emergency started in March 2020. Another 28% of DSPs said their organizations had been short-staffed before the public health emergency started and continued to be short-staffed during the emergency. About 22% said their organizations were fully staffed. In an April 2020 survey of DSPs, 26% said their organizations were short-staffed.
