Over 60% Of People With Schizophrenia Use Tobacco; Use of Other Substances Tops 76%

About 62.3% of people hospitalized for schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSDs) used tobacco. About 76.8% used tobacco or other substances such as cannabis, alcohol, and cocaine. The majority used two or more substances. About 41.5% used cannabis. About 40.2% used alcohol. About 27.4% used cocaine. Those who used tobacco were 7.24 times more likely to also use alcohol. Tobacco users were five times more likely to use cocaine, 4.62 times more likely to use synthetic cannabis (K2), and 2.8 times more likely to use cannabis.
