Between 2011 and 2019, the number of “specialty behavioral health establishments,” defined as mental health and/or addiction treatment service locations, increased by 34% from 17,183 in 2011 to 23,038 in 2019. Across the health and social service industry, the number of locations rose 100%. The number of outpatient locations rose by 46%, from 8,259 to 12,038. Hospital-based service locations establishments rose by 29%, from 1,792 to 2,315. Residential service locations establishments rose by 22%, from 7,131 to 8,686.
