Emergency Department Visits For Suspected Suicide Attempts In 2020 Were 22% To 39% Higher Among Females Aged 12 To 17 Compared To 2019
During 2020, the number of emergency department visits for suspected suicide attempts made by adolescents ages 12 to 17, was 22.3% higher during summer 2020 and 39.1% higher during winter 2021 than during the corresponding periods in 2019. Much of the increase was due to a rise in visits by females; their mean weekly number was 26.2% higher during summer 2020 and 50.6% higher during the winter of 2021, than the corresponding period in 2019.
