Nursing Home Residents With COVID-19 & Those Without Experience Similar Levels Of Cognitive Decline
Both nursing home residents with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), and those without COVID-19 experienced an about 10% decrease in Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) scores from October to December 2019, and June to July 2020. The likely reason for this decline in both groups was the burdens of social isolation and COVID-19 containment. The MMSE is a 30-point questionnaire that is used extensively in clinical and research settings to measure cognitive impairment, used to estimate the severity and progression of cognitive impairment and to follow the course of cognitive changes in an individual over time.
