Half Of Adults With ADHD Have Had An Addiction Disorder
Approximately 48.7% of adults with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) have had an addiction disorder, compared to 23.6% of those without ADHD. About 36% had a lifetime alcohol use disorder compared to about 19% of those without ADHD. The odds of developing an alcohol use disorder were 38% higher among adults with ADHD than among adults without ADHD. Those with ADHD were 46% more likely to develop a cannabis use disorder than people without ADHD. Those with ADHD were twice as likely to develop other drug use disorders, and 70% more likely to develop any addiction disorder.
