Changes To Routines Most Common PCP Recommendation For Parents Of Preschool-Age Children With ADHD
Changing household routines or a child’s habits were the most common recommendations of primary care professionals (PCPs) for families of preschool-age children (ages 4 and 5) with a diagnosis or symptoms of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), at 41%. About 29% of parents of preschoolers with ADHD were given a handout or verbally advised to consider seeking parent training in behavioral management (PTBM), which is considered as first-line treatment for this age group. About 17% of preschoolers with ADHD were prescribed medications (mostly stimulants) to treat the symptoms. About 11% of parents were referred to PTBM.
