The pandemic made many changes to the practice of telehealth. The public health emergency (PHE) brought in new rules for reimbursement, for acceptable telehealth platforms, and for remote prescription of controlled substances (see State Medicaid Telehealth Policies Before & During the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency). One specific change was the loosening of clinical licensure rules for providing telehealth services. The temporary rules gave clinical professionals the ability to practice across state lines.
