Peer Support 2.0
In June, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) again expanded the use of peer support services in Medicaid—this time in emergency rooms and inpatient settings (see;Medicaid Reimbursement For Peer Support Services). CMS will reimburse for services delivered by trained peer supporters including providing emotional support, navigating the steps in care, connecting consumers to community resources, and offering strategies for managing crises or acute episodes related to mental health or substance use.
