Most mergers fail to achieve their objectives. The failure numbers are high in any study you read—ranging from 70% to 90%. But lack of success didn't slow down the activity this year. There were 6,000 mergers and acquisitions in 2021. In a new Forbes article, Key Advice For Leaders Completing M&As In 2022, the author writes that factors responsible for low success rates "include incompatibilities in organizational systems, a lack of system or financial synergies, incongruent organizational cultures amongst others, and issues relating to people and culture being particularly problematic...."
