Surprises That Make Consumers Cranky
It is no wonder that consumers’ reported experience with the health care system is poor. Of insured, working-age adults, 45% reported receiving a medical bill or being charged a copayment in the past year for a service they thought should have been free or covered by their insurance. 17% of these consumers said their health plan denied coverage for care that was recommended by their clinician. And, more than half said that neither they nor the clinician challenged the denial.; As a result, 60% of these consumers reported their care was delayed as a result.
