Forty-nine percent of physicians told Medscape they feel burned out and 20% said they were depressed—compared to 53% and 23%, respectively, last year. These were a few of the findings in the new survey report, Medscape Physician Burnout & Depression Report 2024: 'We Have Much Work to Do'.

Of the physician specialties, emergency medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, and oncology reported the highest levels of burnout at 63%, 53%, and 53% respectively.;Family medicine physicians were at 51% and psychiatrists at 39%. And 42% reported feeling burnout for two years or more.
