The Crisis Challenge
Almost 10% (8.9%) of U.S. adults reported having a mental health crisis last year—a surprising statistic reported in new research, Mental Health Crises And Help-Seeking Among US Adults In 2024-2025.
Almost three quarters (72.6%) of people in crisis sought help. Of those, more than half contacted a physician or other clinician (53.2%). Almost one in five (17.5%) used the 988 crisis hotline, 12.4% turned to some type of walk-in mental health clinic, 10.5% turned to their religious institution, and 9.9% used a mobile crisis team.
