1.2% Of Hospitalized Individuals With COVID-19 Had Serious Brain Complications
Between September 2019 and June 2020, approximately 1.2% of those hospitalized with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) had serious brain complications such as stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, and encephalitis (inflammation). About 10% of people hospitalized with COVID-19 who had brain scans were found to have brain abnormalities. Males were twice as likely, compared to females, to have brain complications during a COVID-19 hospitalization.
