10% Of Adolescents Had Serious Suicidal Thoughts In 2024
About 10% of adolescents aged 12 to 17 had serious thoughts of suicide, according to a national survey conducted in 2024. The percentage of youth reporting serious suicidal thoughts has declined since 2021, when 12.9% reported having such thoughts. In addition to a reduction in serious suicidal thoughts, the percentage of youth who reported making a suicide plan in the past year declined from 6.2% in 2021 to 4.6% in 2024. The percentage who attempted suicide in the past year declined from 3.6% in 2021 to 2.7% in 2024, according to the analysis.
