30-Day COVID-19 Death Rate Is 21% Among U.S. Nursing Home Residents; Twice As High For Those With Cognitive Impairment
The all-cause 30-day mortality rate was 21% among U.S. nursing homes residents who have coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The odds of death among residents with moderate cognitive impairment who had COVID-19 was twice (2.09 times) that of cognitively intact residents. The odds of death among residents with severe cognitive impairment who had COVID-19 was close to three times (2.79) higher than that of cognitively intact residents.
