88% Of Illinois Public Schools Lack Sufficient Teachers
About 88% of Illinois school superintendents report having a teacher shortage problem. In addition, almost all schools (96%) lack sufficient substitute teachers. During 2020, 412 school district classes in Illinois were canceled due to teacher staffing issues. Another 385 classes were converted to online instruction due to teacher shortages. About 80% of school superintendents said that they used existing teachers during their prep time to alleviate teacher shortage issues.
