About 30% Of People With Autism Take Multiple Medications To Manage Comorbid Conditions
Approximately 30% of people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who are prescribed medications to manage comorbid conditions take more three or more medications. The number of prescriptions is dependent on the specific medical or behavioral comorbidities. For those taking medications for comorbid conditions, prescription regimens changed frequently within medication classes, rather than between classes.
The estimate is based on an analysis of a nationwide managed care organization claims database containing more than 86 million unique members from January 1, 2014, to December 31, 2019. The researchers identified 26,722 individuals with ASD who took one (or more) of 24 medications . . .
