Alcohol-Induced Deaths Among Adults Increased 43% Between 2006 & 2018; Overall Rate For Women Increased 76%

Between 2006 and 2018, the age-adjusted rate of alcohol-induced death among adults aged 25 and older rose by 43%, from 10.7 per 100,000 in 2006 to 15.3 in 2018. In the six years prior, from 2000 to 2006, the rate was stable at about 10.7 per 100,000. For both males and females, alcohol-induced death rates increased at a greater rate between 2000 and 2018 in rural areas compared with urban areas.
