Almost 40% Of Residential Care Aides Live In Low-Income Households
About 40% of the 735,000 residential care aides in the United States in 2019 lived in low-income households. The median hourly wage was $12.69, which is equivalent to median earnings of $21,100 per year. The residential care workforce includes personal care aides, home health aides, and nursing assistants who assist individuals in small group homes, assisted living communities, and other residential care settings. Residential care aides comprised about 16% of the direct care workforce in 2019.
