Anthem Review Of 2020 Claims Data Finds Decline In Mental Health Treatment Utilization
Among children and older adult Anthem members, the percent of individuals with a new mental health diagnosis in 2020 was lower than in 2019. Among younger adults, the percent of individuals with a new mental health diagnosis was lower in 2020 than expected based on 2019 trend. Mental health treatment utilization declined during 2020 (compared to 2019 rates) for most Anthem member populations, but rose slightly, 1%, among Baby Boomers.
Despite the overall downward trend in diagnosis and treatment, during 2020, more adult Anthem members were diagnosed and treated for anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) than in 2019 . . .
