New Jersey Autism Rate Among Four-Year-Olds Rose 43% Over Four Years
The autism rate among four-year-old children rose 43% in New Jersey, from a prevalence of about 19.7 per 1,000 children in 2010, to a prevalence of about 28.4 per 1,000 in 2014. Among seven states (Arizona, Colorado, Missouri, New Jersey, North Carolina, Utah, and Wisconsin) being monitored for autism prevalence among four-year-old children, New Jersey had the highest overall prevalence of autism among four-year-old children during this time, at one in 35 children in 2014, equaling about 3% of the total 4-year-old child population in the surveillance area . . .
