Autism-Related Challenges Persist Into Adulthood; 80% Require Support & Supervision

About 80% of adults diagnosed as children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) continue to require support and supervision, and have difficulty with social functioning. About 46% of adults with ASD have limited or very limited social functioning and require high levels of support across most life areas, including residential care and hospital services. Another 34% have some degree of independence, and although most require support and supervision, they do not need specialist residential provision; although they have no close friends they do have some acquaintances.
