Boulder, Colorado Launches Behavioral Health Crisis Response Program With Boulder Police Department
On February 8, 2021,the city of Boulder, Colorado launched a Crisis Intervention Response Team (CIRT), a co-responder program that pairs behavioral health clinical professionals with police officers responding to incidents where a person’s mental health and behavior are a concern. CIRT is staffed by four licensed clinical professionals employed by the city’s Housing and Human Services Department (HHS). The city anticipates that this approach will improve outcomes of police interactions by providing the appropriate behavioral health expertise to intervene during a crisis and connect people with needed treatment and other community services.
