CMS Approves Georgia Plan To Implement A State-Run Health Insurance Exchange With Private Brokers
On November 1, 2020, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) approved the state of Georgia’s request to replace its current Medicaid determination and health insurance exchange model with the “Georgia Access Model,” which will feature a decentralized hub that will enroll consumers in coverage through private web brokers or directly with insurance carriers. The change will take place in 2023. Currently the state uses Healthcare.gov for initial Medicaid eligibility determinations and enrollment in Qualified Health Plans (QHPs) that meet federal requirements for essential health benefits.
