Medicare Proposes Reimbursement Changes For Treatment Of Chronic Kidney Disease & End-Stage Renal Disease
On July 1, 2021, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a proposed rule that proposes to reduce health care disparities among Medicare beneficiaries with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage renal disease (ESRD). The rule updates payment rates under the ESRD Prospective Payment System (PPS) for renal dialysis services furnished to beneficiaries on or after January 1, 2022.
The rule proposes the following broad goals:
- Update the Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) dialysis payment rate for renal dialysis services furnished by ESRD facilities.
