Hospital Costs For Children With Chronic Kidney Disease Are 60% Higher Than Those With Other Chronic Conditions
Hospitalized children with chronic kidney disease (CKD) had costs 60% higher than costs for hospitalized children with other chronic health conditions in 2006, 2009, 2012, and 2016. The hospital length of stay for children with CKD was about 30% higher than for other children. Children with CKD were 50% more likely to die during the hospitalization. Children with CKD represented about 4% of the 6.5 million pediatric hospital discharges for children with chronic conditions over the four years analyzed.
Hospital costs for children with CKD averaged $8,755 per hospitalization compared to $5,016 in costs for other hospitalized . . .
