Disability Rights New York Sues To Protect Congregate Care Residents From Health Care Rationing During COVID-19
On April 9, 2020, Disability Rights New York (DRNY) sued Governor Andrew Cuomo for failing to designate congregate care settings for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD) as priority recipients of personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). DRNY has received complaints that people with I/DD in these settings have become sick with COVID-19 and some have died due to complications.
Just two days earlier, on April 7, 2020, DRNY had sued the New York Department of Health (DOH) to ensure that people living in congregate care settings are considered priority . . .
