The Proportion Of Overweight & Obese Children Rose To Over 40% In 2020
Between March 2020 and January 2021, the incidence of children ages 5 to 17 who were overweight and obese rose to over 40%. The increase was particularly pronounced among younger children, with a relative increase of almost 24%.
Among children ages 5 to 11 years, the incidence of overweight and obesity rose from 36.2% to 45.7%, representing an absolute increase of 8.7% from January 2020, and a relative increase of 23.8%.
