Family Caregivers Of Long-Term Care Residents With Dementia Want Facility COVID-19 Protocols To Maximize Opportunities For In-Person Contact
Family caregivers of long-term care (LTC) residents with dementia want LTC facilities to adopt and consistently follow coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) protocols that maximize opportunities for in-person contact with the resident. This recommendation is based on a qualitative survey of family caregivers to a LTC resident with dementia. The survey responses indicated a desire for active communication between facility staff and family caregivers, and concern that LTC COVID-19 protocols should address methods to improve residents’ mental, physical, or cognitive health when in-person visits are not possible.
