Global Prevalence Of Dementia Estimated To Triple To More Than 152 Million By 2050
The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington School of Medicine estimates that the number of people with dementia will nearly triple to more than 152 million by 2050. In 2019 alone, there were an estimated 1.62 million deaths globally due to dementia. Due to population aging, the all-age mortality rates increased by 100.0% between 1990 and 2019. In 2019, deaths due to dementia ranked seventh globally among individuals of all ages compared to deaths from other diseases estimated in the Global Burden of Disease study.
