20.4% Of U.S. Adults Report Experiencing Chronic Pain
During 2019, about 20.4% of adults in the United States had chronic pain, and about 7.4% of adults had high-impact chronic pain that frequently limits their participation in life or work activities. The prevalence of chronic pain and high-impact chronic pain both increased with age and were highest among adults aged 65 and over. Women had a higher prevalence of chronic pain (21.7%) and high-impact chronic pain (8.5%) compared with men (19.0% and 6.3%, respectively).
