Medicaid Expansion Is Associated With Positive Financial Outcomes For Provider Organizations
Provider organizations, such as hospitals and health centers, in states that expanded Medicaid coverage to the expansion population had better financial stability due to higher reimbursement rates. The analysis of 24 studies also found a decreased incidence of uncompensated care. Decreases in uncompensated care costs at hospitals outweighed the increases in unreimbursed Medicaid care, leading to a net positive impact. As of January 2023, all but 11 states have expanded Medicaid eligibility.
