Mental Health Outpatient Treatment Increased For Youth In Ontario, Canada Through The First Year Of COVID-19
Among youth in Ontario, Canada, outpatient mental health care use was 10% to 15% above expected levels for March 2020 through February 2021, the first year of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. In March 2020, the mental health outpatient care weekly visit rate was 6.1 per 1,000 youth, while the expected rate was 7.1 per 1,000 population. By October 2020, the rate had increased to 8.0 per 1,000 youth, versus the expected rate of 7.3 per 1,000 (10% over the expected rates).
