Missouri Emergency Rule Lets Nursing Homes Temporarily Close Due To COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate Staffing Shortages
On November 4, 2021, the state of Missouri enacted an emergency rule that allows nursing homes to temporarily close due to staffing shortages caused by the federal mandate that nursing home workers be vaccinated against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Health care facilities that fail to comply with the federal mandate will not meet Medicare and Medicaid conditions of participation. The federal mandate that requires nursing home workers be vaccinated against COVID-19 went into effect the following day on November 5, 2021.
