Federal Insurance Marketplace Nets New Coverage For 940,000 People
On May 6, 2021, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that 940,000 consumers signed up for health insurance during the federal Health Insurance Marketplace special enrollment period (SEP) from February 15 through April 30, 2021. About half, 469,000 consumers, signed up during April. The SEP ended on May 15, 2021. In previous years, SEPs were available primarily only for consumers with qualifying life events, whereas this year the Biden-Harris Administration opened a SEP to all Americans in response to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) public health emergency.
