More Than Half Of Those With Moderate To Severe TBI Recover Ability To Function Independently Within 12 Months Of Injury
More than half of those who experienced a moderate to severe traumatic brain injury (msTBI) recovered their ability to function independently at home (for at least eight hours per day) within 12 months post-injury. About half of those with severe TBI regained their ability to function, as did three-quarters of those who experienced moderate TBI. Among those with a severe TBI who had been in a vegetative state for two weeks after the injury, by 12 months 77% recovered consciousness and 25% regained orientation.
